SNL Turns On Hillary, Big Time
14 comments on this post I know we post a lot of video clips on this site, but if you are interested in the Democratic Primary you need to watch this sketch.
"I am a sore loser. My supporters are racist. I have no ethical standards." These were the slogans of the monologue delivered by Amy Poehler in her satire of Senator Clinton. My jaw dropped as I watched this sketch. I've watched it over and over trying to make sense of it. Part of me laughed because the writing was excellent, her impression is funny, and the topics covered were right out of the past week's headlines. The other part of me felt there was something about this sketch that didn't seem right. I understand that SNL was playing off of Senator Clinton's comment last week which suggested that many of her white supporters would not vote for Senator Obama in the fall. Senator Clinton definitely needs to clarify those remarks. However, the words "my supporters are racist" on the screen with Senator Clinton's face as a back drop is a powerful visual. I don't like to see a fellow Democrats or anybody for that matter unfairly called racist. In our society, that is a serious charge regardless of whether it is supposed to be funny or not. I'm surprised that SNL decided to go that route and as a supporter of Senator Clinton's (except as the Democratic nominee for president), I'm disappointed they did.
What makes this more confusing to me is earlier in this primary season the real Senator Clinton appeared on the show for a cameo with Poehler. It was nice appearance, funny, and seemed to illustrate a good relationship between SNL and their home state Senator. This past February, Senator Clinton went so far as to encourage skeptics to watch Saturday Night Live as support for the unfair treatment she claimed she was getting in the debates. At the time, I was kind of pissed that they were giving Clinton such flattering sketches while Fred Armistead's impression of Obama was just plain bad. Now, SNL is kicking Hillary when she is down.
I suspect this sketch is going to be discussed a lot in the upcoming week. Regardless of your opinion on it, there is no denying SNL's relevancy in politics.

Now, before everyone says - "Kyle, you are so lame. Clinton deserves it." - I want to remind you of a few things. Bringing the party back together is going to require good sportsmanship. We need to remember that these Clinton supporters we have been debating with forever are in a tough spot as they watch their candidate fall just short. Imagine being in that position. Remember, we all share the same goals, but we support different candidates. The only people who are going to be helped by Senator Clinton being trashed in the final days of her campaign are the Republicans.
I read your comments and considered what you said, and my response is....
Kyle, you are so lame. Clinton deserves it.
For any Clinton supporter to claim they cannot vote Obama, they obviously don't care too much about the issues Clinton claims to espouse. The only areas of true distinction b/w the two is foreign policy, where she takes a more hawkish approach. i know i got ripped for saying this before, but that is how i feel.
so for someone to not accept Obama, it is either:
a) they are in support of a more hawkish foreign policy, OR
b) they have some dumb superficial reason.
perhaps they may also like to see a woman become president... I don't think that qulaifies as dumb or superficial.
A good portion of this election's propaganda is flying right over my head - So I dont get it either. I am either comfortably numb or braindamaged
I do know that Hill & Bill may pull a rabbit out of the hat. (Hint- call in all those 8 yrs of "favors" w/superdelegates)
If it goes down - get ready for marching in the streets
The NEW Boss - same as the OLD boss
Watching this sketch loop endlessly is like swimming with the Manatees after eating a handful of Ecstasy.
My heart is so full of joy it might burst.
Maybe I feel this way because I'm older than SNL by more than a decade but folks, it's a parody. It's humor, it's sharp, it's pointed.
It's not tea leaves or a Ouiji board.
It's a comedy sketch show. :)
If Gerald Ford thought that they hated him because of how many times we saw Chevy Chase fall down stairs or over tables etc., Ford might have committed homicide, or suicide.
Jill- Funny....how about John Belushi mocking Joe Cocker?
Today he would probably be sued by some crippled persons advocates
PS- I loved when Chevy would answer the phone (as Ford) and staple his ear
True, Petey!
The key value is that it's a touchstone of what is captivating us, what we can't figure out, what we wish wasn't going on and how we'd like things to be.
BTW, was just reading up on Google News - looks like Hillary is toast & she knows it.
Will she go for a plum cabinet position?
a woman is not going to happen, so the feminists need to do what they can to stop mccain from rolling back all the supreme court for decades
Either way, I don't see more than 10% of those hurt Hillary supporters turning away from Obama. And there are always 5-10% of Dems that vote GOP, so this is an exaggerated issue. The real issue is standing up and exposing John McCain
The other thing I question about these exit polls of "Democrats" voting in the primaries is how many of those voters are Republicans crossing over to meddle in the Democratic Primary? That may account for the high drop off numbers, particularly of Clinton voters saying they would never vote for Obama.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. The best political impersonation on SNL since Dana Carvey was doing his H. Ross Perot schtick. ROTFL.
Amen to your first comment, Jill.
