Lazy Legislators Love Llamas

9 comments on this post
Every once in awhile I just like to check up on my legislators to make sure they are doing their jobs and check out their agendas. Cursed with the representation that I have, I am generally unpleasantly surprised. You see, John Widowfield is my Ohio state representative-- voted on by his peers in the legislature and colleagues in the lobbying world to be Ohio's laziest legislator.
llama1
Here's a quick run down of his activities this term in the general assembly:
1 = Sponsored legislation (HB 311) regarding the definition of "dependent" for unemployement benefits
16 = Cosponsored bills
1/3 = of these cosponsored bills deal with the renaming of portions of Ohio's highways and bridges
144 = the bill that would make May Ohio's official Nurses' Month
2 = the number of new species (alpacas and llamas) that would be considered "agricultural animals or livestock" in HB 352
As you can see, Representative Widowfield has been awfully effective in the 07-08 cycle. *** Insert bold sarcasm here*** The only time you'll ever hear this out of me: "thank goodness for term limits!"
That's why we need Mike Moran; he will be a fabulous new 42nd District Rep. Donate to his campaign today!

Rep Widowfield is not a cosponsor of the House's latest introduction into the hopper-- HB 548 which would make Lentil the official children's book in Ohio and Robert McCloskey the official children's book author.

This may be just the kickstart we need to get that unconstitutional education funding system back on track. We'll start by giving all little boys in Alto, Ohio harmonicas and see if they can save the day.

lentil...i loved that movie. barbara streisand was stellar as that jewish boy/girl. i think emo is the new androgyny.

thank god widowfield has sponsored it as the state book. if this is the level to which he governs...perhaps it's better that he does nothing, no?

Just to be clear, Widowfield isn't leaving because of term limits. He still has a term to go. He appears to be running for local offices to get him out of there, either because he's vulnerable or because Alex wants the seat to go to someone he owes more to.

Also remember that Widowfield is running for the one Repub seat on County Council, having defeated the incumbent who is a Coughlin ally.

According to his website, Widowfield is in his 4th term in the House, which I thought was the limit. Am I wrong? (Meaning 4 consecutive 2 year terms, or 8 years)

Widowfield came in to fill Coughlin's unfinished term when he went to the State Senate. Widowfield will be the lamb for sacrifice in the November Cuyahoga Falls At-Large seat. God Bless that brilliantly lazy guy. Back to middle-management for him in the private sector. At least his wife works at the BOE to keep a roff over his head. Maybe he can go aggravate some dead soldiers dad some more for political gain with Donny boy Robart.

annie,
the fact that they still haven't reworked the educational funding after it was declared ohio unconstitutional (what...around a decade ago, now?) is appalling.
on the other hand, when they have an easy dodge at their finger tips like the ohio lotto/lottery, then what incentive is there for the legislature to deal with it?

isn't it just easier for the state to profit off gambling and funnel money to the schools?
(mind you, i don't care if ppl gamble...i just don't like the state profiting from it)

Annie, good point on Moran. He is going to be fun to watch and a strong candidate.

Widowfield could serve more than eight years if his first term was appointed (don't recall). Sawyer is in this situation and can actually serve two terms plus the remainder he assumed from Zurz.
