Chelsea Clinton at UA
Chelsea Clinton came to the UA Student Union today to speak to students, staff, and community members. I estimate attendance at about 1,000. Chelsea was very gracious and took questions from the audience for over an hour. This is the first in a long line of campaign stops for all candidates over the next 19 days!

She won't give an interview to the media, but she did answer some (likely pre-selected) questions. Good for her.
Why would she give an interview to the media? How many children of candidates (or spouses for that matter) do so?
There were no preselected questions; she answered random students' questions-- some of the people she picked out of the crowd were critical and asked really tough questions, but she fielded them well.
She is clearly not comfortable in front of a crowd and wasn't nearly as engaging as either her mom or dad (I've seen both in person), but I give her credit because she is helping her mom for stumping, which is grueling.
I give her credit. I am sure she takes hostile questions from the young Obama crowd
Were there Obama supporters there acting like jackasses Annie?
No. I was worried because I heard a lot of my students were trying to organize a rally around the event. There was a group of 20 or so Obama supporters there passing out flyers and buttons and one or two held up a sign. A few chanted at the very beginning, but they were very respectful overall. I threatened to hurt them if they embarassed the U with so many press folks around.

therefore, when he takes questions do you think that there is an increased chance that it would be from, say, an obama supporter?
you might as well point out that the q's were from those that attend school at, or work for, the university of akron.
annie, good to see you today. as exhausting as the last couple of days must have been, you were in good spirits.
and just to be clear, i saw numerous people inside wearing obama buttons. there were ppl outside with signs. i saw one or two inside with obama signs.
i didn't stick around long to hear many of the questions, but i wouldn't be surprised if an obama supporter(s) got to ask something.
annie, any idea? did anyone proclaim their support for obama to her while asking a question? for that matter, did anyone claim support for clinton?
given this, i think my comparison to univ of akron ppl asking questions was off the mark because i suspect there was a higher % of those in attendence than clinton supporters.
annie love your contributions & stories to this site, I am sorry you have to deal with such rancor and spite from one of your fellow contributors.

ada, when obama takes questions, they are softballs. but he also does interviews and takes questions from the media. so do his other advocates. those questions are not necessarily softballs.
louise, i don't have rancor or spite towards annie. i have rancor towards hillary clinton. she would be a disasterous democratic nominee and will overall be bad for the country, especially on foreign policy where she has been no different than GW Bush.
I have come to expect liberals to be rude and disrecpetful to those they view as conservatives. But to have to be concerned about "liberals' treating their brethern in the same manner is very distrubing. Perhaps it is time for the youth in this country that preach tolerance, compassion etc. to look inside themselves and ask have we become what we claim to oppose.
