Useful Information or Just Creepy?
I ran across some information about a bill proposed by Senator John Boccieri. The idea is to encrypt emergency contact information onto your drivers license so that officers can quickly notify family members. While I think that it's a creative idea and could be very useful, the paranoid in me can shake the feeling that it's creepy.

I don't know. I WANT to like this bill. It seems like such an easy thing to do and could provide great benefits (I mean, how many people actually carry emergency contact information around with them?) but some little paranoid voice in my head won't shut up (maybe those are the voices from Petey's head and they've just come over to visit). Convince me that I'm wrong because I really do want to like this idea.
It doesn't work that way.
The pros are obvious... as you say "great benefits." There's no need to repeat them. Tell us your specific concerns and we'll respond.
I have similar Big Brother fears. I was as amazed as frightened by Google Earth. But in this case I don't see any rational reason to worry.
Google Earth scares you? It's not like you are controling a real-time satellite. Based on the landscaping at my house I'd say the "current" image is from spring of 2006.

I have extreme doubts. Do you have any idea how much it costs to move a satellite to a certain position? How many users of Google Earth are searching for a position at the same time? 100? 1000? 10,000? You have to understand the science and the economics behind it. Random, real time satellite views are not in the cards.
