What's so unreasonable?
The House has passed a bill bringing the troops home from Iraq if the Iraqi government fails to meet certain benchmarks by September 2008. That's over a year to do what Rumsfeld, Cheney, and others said could be done in a matter of months - establish a functioning democracy and live in peace. (those aren't the requirements of the bill - that's what Rummy and Cheney thought could be done lickety-split)Bush has promised to veto the bill. Good for him. I wonder if that means he's got a better way to enforce goals on the Iraqi government. Send more troops maybe? He's a failure.
This wouldn't have been an issue if BushCo had listened to people who didn't agree with them all the time. They could have planned for an insurgency and how to deal with it, plan for infrastructure failures and how to prevent them, etc. If BushCo had managed the war with even the slightest bit of basic competency, we wouldn't have to be creating dates for ending the war.

even the hardest-core democrat partisans have to be disappointed in pelosi & co. today.
Pelosi & Co. bribed dems with tax payer money by adding subsidies to the bill. Plus they know the bill will be vetoed so they are playing with troop funding just to send some sort of message. Pathetic

It's about damned time the Dems put some teeth into calls to get out.
If Bush wants to veto ending the war so be it. The Dems have stood up and been counted, and have compromised by not pulling funding immediately, which they would do if they listened to their constituents. Instead they give as much deference to the commander in chief as they possibly can. Fine, we'll give you a year to withdraw. That's more than reasonable.
It's not working and it will never work. We have to get out.

I have to agree Bush and company had no plan for the possibilities that did arise. Having said that it does not automatically follow that because he is a pathetic Commander in Chief the right course is to set a date to withdraw. Is it the right thing to do? There needs to be an honest discussion about the consequences of a firm withdrawal policy. Will that happen, hell no. Playing politics has superceeded what is best.
I have always enjoyed Dennis and his antics but his latest is way over the top. He stated that Bush and Cheney should be held accountable for threatening another country(in this case Iran) because it is outlawed by the UN charter. A noble concept, but despite one thinks of threats it is an integral and necessary part of the negotiation process. Perhaps in a world where self interests (rational or not) were secondary to harmony perhaps but that isnt our world.
The only dishonest discourse on the war and its consequences have come from the Bush Administration. Neither you nor Bush would recognize honest discourse even if it bit you on the ass.

how about a discussion on what are the consequences for the region after the US pulls out rathr than the old rants about what mistake it was. Climton gave us a timetable leaving Bosina. Does that mean we should have left and damn the consequences? "What is best" is a question you asshole.

The reason the invasion of Iraq was such a profound mistake is precisely because it leaves no "best solution" as you put it. We stay or we go. It's Sophie's Choice. There is no solution that either doesn't involve a massive long-term commitment of American lives and dollars or a bloody civil war and genocide. It's like trying to find a best solution for a loved one that is brain dead and on life support indefinitely, or pulling the plug and letting them die. There is no "best" solution that will please anyone. Quit pretending that the only reason there isn't an equitable solution in Iraq is because politicians are political.
