My Letter To The Editor
I didn't catch the Akron Beacon Journal yesterday, but my letter to the editor was printed. I had titled it "Do Unto Other Democrats," which summarized the point of my letter. Unfortunately, they changed the title. Here it is as it was printed:
Democrats duking it out
I am disappointed in how Betty Sutton's campaign has gone after fellow Democrat Tom Sawyer. Primaries should be about a candidate's accomplishments and vision. I had the chance to hear Sutton speak at Cafe Momus and was excited about her candidacy. Her positive, upbeat message I heard stands in stark contrast to the negative ads and gimmicky Web sites I see now. As a proud Democrat, I'll be thinking about the tone taken by each candidate when I cast my vote Tuesday.

Man, that's some pretty strategic campaigning on the part of the Beacon: Waiting until now to print your editorial. It coincides so nicely with their "Tom Sawyer" article.
Kyle,
I really like your original title.
Those butchers.
Your letter title and now the title from today's debate piece...apparently the Beacon thinks endorsing Tom wasn't enough.
Kyle and Pho published in the Beacon in the same week. Damn bloggers are taking over everything.
I've been reading comments people post on the Beacon and it's not a very Sawyer-friendly crowd. It's unfortunate. People mostly don't like his NAFTA vote, but he has learned his lesson and admits his mistake. That's important.
Unfortunately, people often remember the bad more than the good. Think about it: people only are interested when something bad occurs to them; they are completely oblivious to all the good things going on--that stuff is boring. Clinton is a sex fiend. Sawyer hates the wokers. Jefferson signed the Embargo Act of 1807--bastard. Jackson killed thousands of Indoamericans. T. Roosevelt split the Republican vote. FDR gave us Social Security problems. Kennedy gave us that whole conspiracy thing. Ford was President. Carter lost the hostages...
When I refer to "people," I am most definately including myself.
Sawyer's problem is going to be a lack of a ground game. I think his best hope is that Cafaro and Sutton are trying to turnout the same voters and the people who read the newspapers and this blog vote for him. Who knows?
I will say that Sutton's campaign is emailing around a new WKYC poll showing that Sutton, Sawyer, and Cafaro are all tied with 24%. As they say at Psycobilly Democrat... ABC - Anybody But Capri.
The Beacon always edits my letters... in fact, recently, they just don't publish them anymore. :-)
