Everything I have read says Libby is the target. It will be big news if other people in Cheney's office are indicted. It would show a pattern of behavior. If the special prosecutor gets an extension, that is bad for the White House because it extends the scandal and hampers their ability to put it behind them.

After reading the indictment, Libby is the least of the White House's concerns. The bigger issue is the forged documents and lying to the American people about going to war.

The issue of why we went to war in the first place is front and center once again. (good for Democrats) If anyone in this administration is proven to have done anything to intentionally betray the trust and confidence of the Congress, the President, and the American people about why we went to war in Iraq, then they deserve to be charged with treason.

I put up the music and smiley face rain because politically this is a good day for liberals. However, it is a sad day for our country because (unlike supreme court nominees) there are no do-overs on bad decisions that sent our nation to war.

Great work with the site, Kyle.

In regards to the indictment: I was happy all over until it set in that we're stuck with Bush for 3 more years regardless.

And what’s worse, that our species has the collective memory of a giant goldfish. I wish I didn’t whole-heartedly believe that we’re doomed to elect nothing but lame leaders propped-up with dirty money, hiding behind Jesus, wrapped in flags from now until the day the aliens land and enslave us all.

Personally, I'm looking forward to my intergalactic chains; they'd beat the hell out of this false hope and this 5-indictment consolation prize. My compassion for my fellow man (and for myself) is absolutely exhausted...damn this whole world straight to hell.

Bob,

Hang in there buddy!

Believe me ,Better times are just ahead for this Nation and YOU too.

Uncle Edwin's Rx for you:

1.)
rent the "Grapes of Wrath" - Steinbeck, 1939 & watch it twice

2.) Speak to an 80+ yr old WWII veteran (go to any nursing home or the VA and ask to visit one) the era of the 1920's to now that these persons have lived (survived) through is inspiring

3.) I dont recommend this one: Have about three near death experiences w/ crippling scars that force you to never forget...and which make every day that you wake up a Real Bonus!

4.) Beer, Tequila, Moonshine - You make the call

Like I said, Hang in there Buddy - America needs you

Good times. More thoughts later.

However, here is how you combat your Republican friends at the bar tonight that claim "its not related to the initial crime".....THE REASON FITZGERALD CANNOT INDICT ON THE OUTING CRIME IS BECAUSE SCOOTER OBSTRUCTED JUSTICE AND LYING! These lies have put this investigation on hold. Thanks to Scooter (and the other liars....ehm, Mr. Rove/Cheney/Bush), this will continue on for months and maybe years

It's always funny to me how you liberals take so much pleasure in hatred and negative thought. I agree with you guys that any corruption in gov't should be exposed and any criminals should have their asses kicked out but don't act like this administration is the first to experience these kind of problems. Hell, your beloved expresident committed perjury himself!
Now, I'll admit, I am a conservative and I am a Republican but that is only because, in my heart, I believe in those values and I think they are the best for our country to move ahead and grow stronger. However, unlike most liberals I've come to meet, I don't channel all of my politcal thought into hatred towards other ways of thinking. If you guys would spend more time coming up with solutions to things instead of just bashing others we might be able to get this country back to where it should be.
Oh... and if you guys really do decide that you want to make this country a great place again, then I have a couple of suggestions... 1) quit being negative about everything, people (and voters) dislike that, 2) unify your party with some vision (not just f*** Bush) and 3) don't nominate Hillary in 2008... it won't end well for you again.

Are you really serious???

Hatred and negative thought??? Can you say Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky? Clinton was drug in front of the nation on tv, paybacks a B___H neocon, deal with it.
You know the dems may not be the most organized party, it's widely know thats dems are usually younger, make less money and are just less organized, but Bush and friends like Taft are sure making it easy for us in 06 and 08.

I encourage you to stop using the OVERUSED battlecry of dont say anything about our President, because he is the President, because it was ok when Clinton wasin office to go after him.

And since your in to giving suggestions here's a few for your party:
1. If your going to run on moral values, don't have coin dealers in Ohio raise money illegally for the Governor and President.

2. Don't piss off your base with a laughable supreme court pick.

3. And don't play into the dems hands so much.

For the last 4 plus years you hear every liberal/democrat like Kennedy, Kerry, ect spouting about how the war was not done right, not enought troops ect....and look what just happened. Pandora's box just opened and it's not pretty, and when it's done how good are those liberals going to look.

You say we need to unite our party with out saying F Bush?? No were not saying F Bush now, we're saying we were right about it the whole time, the WMD's, the false intel to go into Iraq, all of the lies of the administration.

And then you say do not nominate Hillary for 08? Personally, I don't think it matters who we nominate. I think you better look at who your nominating, because some of them may be in jail by 08, like Frist.
At every level of goverment, governor, house, senate, and the administration there are real questions that will be played out in the courts and it will not be pretty for any republican candidates, even Mccain and Rudy.

Why is the song "Celebration" playing and why is there a cascade of smiley faces, what are you celebrating? What action occurred that is truly positive, oh so some political hack greased the skids to send a nation to war. Wake up, this nation is still there, just yesterday another Cleveland native died and you want to throw a fucking party because "Scooter" got indicted. Has petulance and the thirst for vengeance replaced common sense, Big oil posts record profits, while the lower class is going to deal with record heating costs, Cleveland Public schools don't have text books for there students, 40 million uninsured, oh yeah and we are losing the best this nation has to offer, but fuck all that because we got Scooter!! Count me outta this party because are we going to see tangible good come from this? NO, its business as usual, forget the causes and good intentions that lead us to our point of views, when we act like this we trade them in for a sense of moral superiority. NOTHING WORTH CLEBRATING HAPPENED!!
So keep pointing fingers and saying I told you so while every issue that you support languishes and dies on the vine. Fuck it. I had hoped for more than just pettiness and token victories.-Dylan

Missed the point, hollow victories mean nothing, does this indictment stop them from "fucking over our country." This is the beginning of the end of this administration? Ok in what way, you think that any of the policies that suck have been rescinded, buy a clue. You got family or close friends in Iraq, they are still there with no idea when they are coming home. Yeah Libby was charged-SHOW ME TANGIBLE RESULTS FROM THIS, until you can do that you have achieved a hollow victory which means nil. You keep on dancing in the streets like this indictment means something I am sure it does alot of good.-Dylan

Again Dylan, it opens up a huge cloud over this administration, questions will be asked about why we went to war and if we were lied to by this administration. We need those questions answered to move forward as a country, because right now more then 50% of our citizens don't think we should be there.
The only way to change anything that this administration has done is to bring it down to it's knees...and this is making the President weak...Yes gas may not go down to a little over a buck next week, or the troops may not be coming home this year, but this is a start. To un due what this administration has screwed up is going to take about the time it took them to actually screw it up in the first place.

I guess you foresee greater implications from this then I do. The fact that we were lied to is old news, do you really think the people that need to ask that question now are going to? I don't believe this administration is going to be brought to its knees. You are celebrating a political victory; I have no use for anything but tangible ones. This is politicians behaving badly, it is egregious but it still does nothing to further any agenda I care about. I reiterate my belief that this is a hollow victory.

No need for telling dylan to fuck off. Of course, he makes an accurate point. Being thrilled over Libby indictment is petty.

But anonymous then goes on to make a good point of why there is call for celebration.....it may very well be the end of this administration. they are totally out of credibility, and that is cause for celebration, because they (hopefully) cannot have their way anymore.

But then anonymous, you are missing a HUGE point when you say "i guess you see greater implications". THIS HAS HUGE IMPLICATIONS! THIS LEAK IS ABOUT LYING A COUNTRY INTO A WAR!
Hence, I see dylan's frustration with meek celebrations over the events.

I think both anonymous and Dylan are on the same side, but cope differently.

And Dylan, I guess that is all I can say in defense of my/others desire to celebrate on Friday. It is a coping mechanism and maybe a bit of humor. I am sure at some point if we were talking we would laugh about this all.....if we didn't, we would get so rilled up, we would march to washington and get arrested on the White House lawn.

And Dylan, this may be an appropriate time to announce that I am totally ashamed of the way the actual Democrats in Washington are handling this. Every damn Senator just sits back and does nothing. They are not openly celebrating (like myself), but they certainly aren't doing anything real to help the American people. So I have decided that ANY democrat that still speaks in support of starting this war is dead to me. If Hillary says it is not a mistake, I will NEVER vote for her.

I wonder if Ted Kennedy is dead or something, because he is the lone voice I have come to count on, and he is nowhere to be found.

And Dylan, stay with us. This thing is not going anywhere. And it is about something huge: lying a nation into war. And that will be around for a long time.

As Glenn Reynolds on Instapundit.com points out today, your "lying a nation into war" line is a lie itself. It's been proven time and time again that there were other reasons the administration used to justify the war in Iraq...check out instapundit for many helpful links to prove this, but here's one example from a NYTimes editorial from February of 2003...

President Bush sketched an expansive vision last night of what he expects to accomplish by a war in Iraq. Instead of focusing on eliminating weapons of mass destruction, or reducing the threat of terror to the United States, Mr. Bush talked about establishing a 'free and peaceful Iraq' that would serve as a 'dramatic and inspiring example' to the entire Arab and Muslim world, provide a stabilizing influence in the Middle East and even help end the Arab-Israeli conflict. The idea of turning Iraq into a model democracy in the Arab world is one some members of the administration have been discussing for a long time.

So Chuck, please stop trying to revise history by saying that the WMDs were the only reason we were led to war; your selective memory continues to obscure the issue. (PS: for the 100th time, EVERYONE thought he had WMDs to begin with. Being wrong is not lying.)

Anytime you see graphics tricks and music on this site, please take it as a joke. I think we will see some tangible effects in the coming months from these indictments.

Pete, what I am interested in is whether the case for war that was made to the President and Congress was honest. This isn't partisan beause our nation needs our leaders to be provided with the best intelligence to make informed decisions. Why were people in Vice-President Cheney's office so concerned about Joe Wilson's editorial? Were documents forged? Was President Bush lied to? Isn't it in the interest of our country to find out? I believe President Bush on this issue. I question the information given to him.

Why is an experienced legal mind like Scooter Libby lying to grand juries? He is an experienced lawyer and not some intern.

So what was it when The White House KNEW that the Niger claim had NO CREDIBILITY, but they used it in the SOTU Address? Explain that to me? PLEASE! I BEG YOU!

And NO, not everyone thought there was WMD. That is simply made up. I listened to radio hosts, Congressmen, Senator Feingold, and many foreign outlets express doubt as to the case for WMD. So "everyone thought it" is just simply not true.

Also, what about Cheney: "there is no doubt" there is WMD. There was definitely doubt. Colin Powell (and more specifically his former chief of staff) have said there was clearly a lot of doubt.

Just because they mixed in some truth, and some other theories for war, does not at all exempt some very specific lies that took place in the build up to this war.
